Color Block Watercolor Bookmarks

Some new bookmarks, inspired by a color block painting I discovered on Etsy.

That painting was done in acrylic and I thought it would be a challenge to try to re-create the same effect with watercolors ... I was right!  Very challenging indeed!

Not the same, but still fun, don't you think?

I've been working on some Valentine's Day inspired art..............

I love these framed, but I'm thinking these would look good as cards too- what do you think?

California Cactus Watercolors

Do you like cactus? I used to think I didn't.  

Then I went to a cactus garden in California and I was in love.  There are many more kinds of cactus than I ever dreamed there could be and so many of them look like they could be some kind of underwater plant.  That garden transported me to another world!

So, ya, I had to paint some of them..........

Tropical Leaves Watercolor

This is a partly fictional painting.  The lines and shapes are based on an actual sketch of mine from years ago- I just made up the colors to make it more interesting.  Doesn't it make you think of something tropical?

P.S. I'm super excited about my new watercolor brushes I got for Christmas!  I haven't had new brushes for something like 10 years!  

Two Elephants and Three Cacti

I don't have a lot to say here.............. just that I'm still painting, some old designs, some new. Two of these will be for sale in my shop soon.  The other is being donated to an auction- more info on that next week.

Let's start out the year with some beautiful blues,

gorgeous greens,

and other cool colors of the ocean!

And yes, these pictures were taken by me, in person, at a beach far far away from Utah.  We took a spur-of-the-moment trip to Solana Beach (near San Diego) for New Years and even though it was a little chilly some days and we spent money we probably shouldn't have,  it was totally worth it.  

I come alive when I'm near the ocean.  It does me so much good! And the memories I made with my husband and son are priceless to me. 

In the end, I'll cherish the memories more than any possessions :)
